| "The
life of the Reverend Asa Dorsey is one worthy of examination for
he is truly one of God's 'good and faithful servants' . . . Future
generations should know that a man like Asa Dorsey once lived among
us in these mountains." - Zell Miller, United States Senator
and former Georgia Governor, quoted in "The Greatest of These." |
| "When
he preaches, he really understands the Gospel. He could take a message,
decipher it, and present it in a way that few others could do, and
people would understand it. He could preach at a level that it wouldn't
go over their heads." - Tommy Irvin, Georgia Commissioner
of Agriculture, quoted in "The Greatest of These" |
| "His
life has enriched the lives of many other people, not only through
his ministry, but also through his family . . . I knew all of his
children growing up, and not only did he live an exemplary life,
but he and his wife, Annie Kate, taught his children to do that."
- Carol Jackson, Georgia Senator, quoted in "The Greatest
of These" |
| "One
day I was at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and a woman there
realized I was from White County. She told me her daddy was raised
in White County. He died when he was in his 30's from cancer, and
they had a hard time because he couldn't work and her mother had
to look after him. They had actually gone without food in order
to get her daddy's medicine. They went to the drugstore one day
and the druggist said, 'You get all this medicine - the bill is
already taken care of.' Her mother asked who was helping them, but
the druggist said that [the donor wanted to remain anonymous]. It
was many years later that she learned it was Asa Dorsey. He went
about doing good without bragging about it, and it didn't matter
what religion you were." Shirley McDonald, historian and
columnist for White County News & Telegraph, quoted in "The
Greatest of These" |
